“On January the 11th we opened the doors to the Sheffield Arena mass vaccination site. That was such a momentous, happy occasion, and it had become possible in a small time frame because of the overnight, round the clock working of numerous teams from my organisation and the fabulous team at Sheffield Arena. When we set up that service, I remember people coming there who’d got such sad stories of loss or isolation, who needed a little bit of time to talk to you. But most of all, what I remember about that time was the hope. Some people hadn’t been out of their homes for months, and they came dressed for the occasion. One lady came In a gown and some pearls. The mood of everybody was really upbeat. And at the vaccine site, people would bring in little letters of thank you. People who would say, you know, I know you’ve not got much time but please will you read that. And there were letters outlining things that had been happening in their lives that the vaccine made a difference to.”
